God with us - Week 34: Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the Lord completely,
and do not rely on your own opinions.
With all your heart rely on him to guide you,
and he will lead you in every decision you make.
6 Become intimate with him in whatever you do,
and he will lead you wherever you go.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (TPT)
Have you ever faced a situation that you honestly thought would break you?
It happened to me a few years ago.
There'll be no gory details here as it's not just my story to tell, but it was an exercise in trusting God that I'll never forget.
The world clearly told me how I should respond to this situation, and the temptation to follow that route was overwhelming at times.
In the middle of that experience, I knew God was asking me to make a different choice.
He was guiding me down a path that was counterintuitive to everything I thought I knew.
God was asking me to trust Him.
I can't speak for anyone else, but following the wisdom of Proverbs 3:5-6 was the wisest thing I've ever done, and I dread to think where I'd be now if I'd relied on my own wisdom.
If I'd have read a blog like this in the middle of my challenging circumstance, then I'd have said, "well, that's just smashing for you, isn't it?"
I get it!
When you're in the middle of a difficult time, it can be hard to see a way through, but my experience is that if you stay close to God, He will see you through every time.
The blog this week is short and sweet because so much has been said about these verses. I can only share my own experience that the wisdom of Proverbs 3:5-6 was life-changing for me. It's not just something to stick on a fridge magnet; it's my lived experience. I'm sure it's the same for many of you.
This week's blog is named after a beautiful song by Nichole Nordeman (yep, her again!)
I could stand, I could fall.
You want all of me
I could run, I could crawl
You will always be
You're not impressed with all of my best
Not disappointed when I don't land on my feet
In everything, you are asking me to lean
You ask me to trust
When You Say I was enough
You made me to lean
Nichole Nordeman
Whatever you're facing this week, then lean into God.
Lean into his understanding rather than your own, and He will guide you wherever you go.
He made us to lean.
